Khmer Girls in Action: Hearing

KGA (Khmer Girls in Action) is an organization that helps empower young Khmer Girls within the Long Beach community.  This week I had the pleasure of photographing them in real action…through their words, they were able to draw out tears and laughter from the audience.  The youth of today are our future for a better tomorrow!!

Kristina Maternity: Laguna Beach

Today Christina and I decided to take a little chance and put aside our initial plan for a park photoshoot and headed out to the beach.  When we arrive, the tide was low, the sun was about to set, and we shared the location with about 20 other photographers…but despite the challenges, we came out with some great shots (with the help of my Nikon flash and a set of pocket wizards of course)!

The warmth of the sunset on her

Yoo Family: Hillcrest Park

Baby Lauren: Studio Portrait

And it’s a wrap…according to baby Lauren of course.

Pham Family: Hillcrest Park

The Pham family flew in from New Mexico for a mini trip to sunny California, and what better way to take a part of Cali back then with a family portrait session.  Thanks guys for being such good sports in front of the camera..you too baby Aiden (even after attempting to pop all six balloons).

PS Mr. & Mrs. Pham- hope you guys enjoyed your mini photo session together

Lina & Andrew Engagement: The Pike

Lina and Andrew- Thank you so much for your patience with me and of course the cranky weather.  You guys rocked it, rain or shine.

Baby Nolan: Newborn Photography

Baby Nolan, born under the year of the Rabbit…it’s only fitting that he dresses up as one for his very first baby portrait.  Thank you so much for being such a natural in front of the camera and allowing your dear mother to dress you up.

Andrew Hem: Cold Water Exhibit

I heard about Andrew’s work through a friend and a big part of me had  to see his work with my own eyes.  Last night I had the chance to do so…and it was amazing.  The amount of talent embodied in Andrew’s work stirred up emotions in it’s viewers.  With all the advancements in technology, we tend to loose sight of raw human talent.  I invite everyone to drive out to Culver City to see for yourself…to witness art at it’s finest.

The exhibit will run from July 16 to August 13, 2011 at the LeBasse Projects.  For more information, click HERE.

Phan Family: Huntington Beach

Phan family, thank you so much for being extremely patient with me and always smiling in front of the camera!!                          Dylan, you’re the first client I’ve had that actually got paid to smile (you.are.a.genius!).

Preap Family: Lodi California

Sometimes life takes over, and we forget to step back and take a moment to see what’s in front of us.  This pass week I not only had the pleasure of taking the Preap’s family portrait, but also documenting the love between parents, as husband and wife.  Never forget that families are build with a simple foundation known as love.

Teri & Jared: Cerritos Sculpture Garden

Jared brings out the best in Teri.  Period. I’ve never seen her smile so much and laugh so hard.  Sometimes all you need is a little laughter and someone to enjoy it with.  May you guys have a marriage filled with love, happiness, and of course, endless laughter.

Kate Senior Portrait: The Lab

Kate, you are a sweetheart!  Thank you so much for making this photoshoot enjoyable for everyone…filled with endless laughter and teasing.

Mother Daughter Photo Session

Maribelle, you’re one amazing mother.  You’ve raised a beautiful, confident, and highly intelligent daughter.  Today, I was honored to photograph the bond you have with your daughter.  Kate, congrats on your upcoming ventures to Smith College this coming fall.

Katelyn Senior Portrait: Signal Hill

It’s hard these days to find young girls who are able embrace their natural beauty.  Katelyn is one in a million.   When I met her, I envision my own daughter…I envision her to be as humble, graceful, and sincere as Katelyn.

Baby Sage Is turning One

Time sure does fly by…when you’re a baby.  About a year ago, this little beauty came over for her first baby portrait session and now she’s dressed and ready for her first birthday photoshoot.   She sure brought  a lot of smiles with her too…even after having several wardrobe changes.

She even brought along the purple tutu she wore for her first photoshoot.

It’s a wrap.  We’re done. YEAH!

Melinda & Cory: Richard Nixon Library

This month I had the opportunity to assist my dear friend, Jared Crawford in documenting the union of families.  Melinda and Cory not only made a commitment to one another as husband and wife, but they also made a commitment to raise Cory’s daughter as parents.

Sanaya & Malia: Canyon Park, Costa Mesa

I love photography because it gives me a way to document not only my life but also the lives of others.  Sanaya and her little bundle of joy, Malia are the cutest clients I’ve worked with.  Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to document the unconditional love a mother has for her child.

Danielle & Chad: San Diego Wedding

Taylor & David: Wayfarers Chapel

This week I had an opportunity to help out my dear friend Jared Crawford in documenting the union of two lives.  We had a blast and I also learned an important lesson, always have a backup sweater.  Something so simple, can make  a difference.

Emma & Josh: Cancun Wedding

Some people have lavish weddings while others have smaller, more intimate ones.  Emma and Josh chose to celebrate their wedding amongst close friends and family; a party of less than 20.  Each guest played a vital role in their lives, as individuals and as newly weds.  Each brought along with them a genuine gift of love and wishes for their “happily ever after.”

Emma, thank you so much for having us be a part of your wedding day. You could not have been a happier bride!! Josh, thanks for posing for me.  As painful as it may seem during the two days of shooting, you managed to “supply” an abundance of smiles and laughter to compliment your beautiful wife.

PS..A big thanks to my dear husband for coming along and joining me in my photo madness.

Trash the Dress: Cancun Style

Wedding photography can be stressful. A lot of preparation goes into making sure that you’re ready for anything that hits your way. But who says it all work?  The day after their wedding, Emma and Josh got dressed up again.  This time they were ready to TRASH…THE…DRESS!!

Disneyland with a mission

Today, I took the day off to spend some time with all my girls at the happiest place on EARTH…. Disneyland.  My little baby Jojo (niece) is leaving to Cambodia in a couple of days and the one thing she wants most is to give Cinderella a hug.  Simple.  But it wasn’t that simple.  Last Friday we took Jojo to Disneyland for the first time.  We search high and low for Cinderella, but she was no where to be found.  The only time we saw her was during the parade.  It was heart breaking to hear her say “Aunty Onny, can I give Cinderelli a hug?”

Well, today we went on a mission, to find CINDERELLA!  And we sure did.  Disneyland is the happiest place on Earth (according to Jojo).

Auntie Lenny & Jojo Monkey

Auntie Lenny and Jojo Monkey; two peas in a pod.  Best friends by nature; these two knuckle heads can’t seem to live without each other.  In less than two days, they will have to learn to live apart.  Jojo Monkey will be leaving to Cambodia or as she calls it “Kam-bo-gee-aa.” Sniff, sniff.

Cindy & Ben: who needs order

Whoever said you could only take wedding pictures during and after the wedding? Why can’t it be two weeks before the actual wedding?

Cindy and Ben did just that.  I met up with them last week and took some pictures of them having fun and getting wet!  Now Ben really knows what he’s getting into; a life long commitment with a girl that’s not so conventional after all.

And that’s a plus!

Cindy, Ben and The Mural Room

When people hear the word “courthouse wedding” they instantly visualize a small little dim room with an old lady and a “marriage” stamp in hand. Well, Cindy & Ben sure proved me wrong (and most people too).  Today they both made the commitment to love, honor, and cherish one another in front of close friends and family.  Congrats to the both of you!!

Don’t stress the little thang

Being a mother to a 2 year old has open my eyes to seeing the world in a much more colorful way.  I laugh often…worry less…and most of all  I’ve learn to just let it go.  Some things you just can’t hold on to…some things you just can’t change.  Take a deep breathe and don’t stress the little things in life.  If you see a puddle of water, don’t walk around it…SPLASH the heck out of it!! Enjoy life as if you were a two year old.

Tom boy day

When Claire turned two, she receive a gift that also meant something to another child.  A pair of Toms shoe.  You see Toms’ motto is “with every pair you purchase, Toms will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need.  One for One.”

Ha & Vu California E-Session

What happens when you pack your bags, take a leap of faith, and head out to Oregon?   You meet the love of your life of course!

It’s as simple as that…

Jill Kassidy & friends

She’s a Millennium baby.  A Gemini. Born under the Chinese sign of the Golden Dragon.  She’s the face of a perfect child.  Full of charisma.

Folks, I would like you to meet little Miss Jill or as we like to call her “Bobby Hill.”

Bear & Aunty Lenny decided to join in on the photoshoot also…  more to love.

Good M[orn]ing 2011

It’s 12:30AM, the kids are all asleep,  the laundries are done and the house is quiet.  Why am I still up? Catching up on work of course.  For someone who hates waking up early, I’m actually up early.  Then again,  my daily routine starts with a 5:00AM alarm courtesy of my Sprint phone.

I can’t sleep! 2011 has been running laps in my mind…

2011 has started and I haven’t been able to finish the final draft to my New Year’s Resolution Road Map to Accomplishing a Super Awesome 2011, or NYRRMASA2011 for short.  I haven’t been able to bake up the perfect recipe.   Then again, my life is full of random recipes.  You get a pinch of sugar here and a pound of salt there.  Lucky for me I happen to enjoy salty food.  All jokes aside, 2011 is a time for fresh starts, new ideas, and moving towards a positive direction.  It’s also a year for hard work and of course mini vacations along the way.   Time to get up and shake your doubts aside and lets makes some memorable memories.  Enjoy life’s randomness.

Happy New Years and good night…

Opinion of a two year old

Mommy made some small changes to the blog Claire.  Do you like it?

……………………………..Well…I guess she’s speechless………………….

Boxed + Shipped: The Exhibition

Today, I had the pleasure of photographing an exhibition at Cal Poly Pomona.  It was cleverly put together by three talented students; Miguel Jimenez, Sergio Lopez, and Samnang Thang.  Umm hmmm…you read that right! One of them is a Thang.  What can I say?  Artistic talent runs in the family.

PS The exhibit will run til this Friday 2/4/11.

Concept Statement

Boxed + Shipped is an installment conceived by thinking outside of the box or developing ideas that deviate from the more conventional forms of landscape architecture.  Found within the box are elements that traditionally have come to define the discipline of landscape architecture.  These techniques, methods, processes, concepts, and skills reach a specific educational end providing a framework for instructions; hence the box.  Exhibited outside of the box are pieces that utilize different modes of creative expression to convey ideas that cannot be easily communicated through standard methods; Film, photography, graphic design, painting, sculpture, animation, and music inform and influence the discipline of landscape architecture in a broader sense.  It is the combination of what is inside, as well as outside of the box, that begins to form a deeper understanding of what can be realized in the field of landscape architecture.

Lee Lee & Nathaniel: The Perfect Recipe

When two chefs meet,  only sweet things can come out of it…LOVE…LOVE…and more LOVE!   Oh, did I forget to mention that Nathaniel is a PASTRY chef?  At this moment; every single, engaged, and married women out there are making faces.  I sure did.  The face of pure jealousy.  Time for me to pick up some baking materials and sign Mr. Thang up for some pastry 101 classes.

Lee Lee & Nathaniel, congrats to the both of you and may you continue to have passion for one another as you do for your love of cooking.

PS, Sina thank you so much for the introduction and the never ending laughter.

The Road Not Taken

By Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I–
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

PS. It’s important to have a partner who allows you to become the person you want to be…because as we grow older ; we evolve.  It’s a matter of understanding and compromising with each other.  Heck, who else are you going to share your embarrassing moments with?

Jasmine & Sergio: Old Town Orange

I believe in faith; in crossing path with people who come into our lives and touch our hearts.

I met Jasmine and Sergio while photographing an exhibit at Cal Poly Pomona.  Sergio was one of the mastermind behind the exhibit called Boxed & Shipped.  Jasmine’s excitement about motherhood reminded me of….me.  In a way, she brought back all those little excitements I had while waiting for the baby bear to be born.  All the hopes and dreams a new parent can have for there unborn child was bundled up in the way they looked at each other.  This weekend I had the pleasure of photographing one of their last moment’s together as a team of two.  Soon, they will welcome a baby girl who will forever change their lives. Congrats to the both of you and enjoy the gift of parenthood.

PS. A BIG thank you to Sergio for attempting the “Spider man” pose for me.  I had a lot of  fun laughing “with” you.

Like Mother…Like Daughter

The baby Bear and I finally got our very first mother-daughter photoshoot.  Thanks to my buddy Christpher Hartman for taking these awesome pictures for us.  And of course the amazing make-up guru; Anha Nguyen for making me ageless and flawless.

The Man Family: Canyon Park

Sotina,

I’m proud to have you as a friend.  No matter where we are in our lives, we always seem to pick up where we left off…years, months, and days later.  You’re an amazing mom and you set the bar high for other mom’s.  Your passion for your family and children is unmatchable.  I can’t wait to meet the new addition to the Man’s family!!

Your friend,

Orn

Chem Family: Jeffrey Open Space Trail

It takes one tough cookie to live with 4 boys, and Mrs. Chem sure makes it seem like a walk through the park…like a nice cool breeze on a summer day.  You’ve got to tell us your secret Mrs. Chem!!  Do share…

Christopher Hartman: A Great Catch

Ladies, I would like to introduce you to my dear friend Christopher Hartman.  He has a heart of gold and is an angel in disguise.  He truly loves….love, and long walks on the beach (seriously).  About two weeks ago, Chris, Linda, and I decided to play around with some lighting techniques.  Linda took over the role of lighting technician, I was the photographer, and that left Chris to be our model.  We had a blast!!

PS Ladies, Chris is single!!

Chris started blushing when we asked him to make funny faces.  Red is the new tan…

This picture gets me laughing like a five year old…an extremely dramatic five year old.  You can see Linda’s hand holding up the Beauty Dish.
